Meet the professional and talented staff of Phil Thompson & Associates crop insurance agency of Minnesota.
Phil Thompson is originally from a farm near Litchville, ND, located in SE North Dakota. He is married to Gloria and they have two grown children. He graduated from NDSU in 1970 with a degree in Agricultural Economics and enlisted in the Air Force where he was an electronics instructor until 1974. After discharge he worked for Production Credit Associate (now Ag County) in various capacities until 1989. He then founded Phil Thompson and Associates, to provide risk management and financially related services to the individuals and businesses in the Warren area.
Gloria graduated from Cooperstown High School in Cooperstown, ND. She received her Bachelor of Science degree in Elementary Education from Valley City State University. She taught elementary school at Central Cass Elementary School in Warren, MN. She joined Phil Thompson and Associates in 1989 as the Office Manager, Accounts Receivable and Payroll Specialist. She is married to Phil and they have 2 grown children and 2 grandchildren.
Chad attended UND and NDSU. He owned a gravel business for 4 years and was a crop adjuster for 9 years before joining Phil Thompson and Associates in 2010 as an insurance agent. Chad is married to his wife Tina and they have 3 children.
Don graduated from Argyle High School and went on to Concordia College in Moorhead where he graduated with a degree in Accounting. After college Don worked for 2 years auditing oil and gas companies in Denver, CO. He moved home to be involved in the family farm and still is involved to this day. Don worked for 10 years for Farm Credit Services doing tax and accounting work before starting with Phil Thompson and Associates in 2000.
Emily graduated from Alexandria Technical College in 1998 and North Dakota State University in 2005. She started working for Phil Thompson & Associates in 2012 doing payroll. Emily is married and has 2 children, Cameron and Addison.
Erik is originally from Duncan Oklahoma. He graduated from Comanche Oklahoma High School in 2003. In 2011 Erik moved to Crookston, MN where he has had first hand experience working with agriculture at Mid Valley Grain and for C&D Reitmeier Farms. Most recently, Erik worked for Farm Bureau Financial Services as an insurance agent. Erik started working as a crop insurance agent for Phil Thompson and Associates in 2013. Erik is married to his wife Kristi and they have one child.
Jenna graduated from Stephen Argyle Central and Aakers Business College. She worked for Anderson & Fecho, PLCC, Northland Community & Technical College and joined Phil Thompson & Associates in 2012. Jenna and her husband Dustin have 2 small children, Brooks and Jade.
Jesse graduated from Stephen/Argyle Central High School and went on to Bemidji State University where he graduated with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Business Administration with an emphasis in Management and Small Business/Entrepreneurship. He worked as a Crop Adjustor for ProAg for 2 years prior to joining Phil Thompson and Associates in 2013. Jesse is married and has one son, Oliver.
Joel grew up on a family farm close to Walhalla ND. He graduated from UND in 1972 with a Bachelor of Science degree in Business and Public Administration. Joel worked in the banking industry, primarily as an agricultural banker in Crookston from 1973-2000. He joined Phil Thompson & Associates in 2000 serving as a crop insurance agent and farm financial consultant.
Katie has a Bachelor of Science degree in Accounting from Moorhead State University. She worked as an accountant for American Woods Manufacturing from 2001-2005, a tax preparer for H&R Block from 2007-2009 and joined Phil Thomson & Associates in 2010. Katie is married and has 4 children.
Lee graduated from Warren High school. He went back to school and graduated in 2007 with and Associates Degree in Accounting. Lee worked as an Accounts Receivable Clerk for a small business before going to a CPA firm doing bookkeeping and tax preparation. Lee started working for Phil Thompson & Associates in 2011 doing bookkeeping and tax preparation. Lee is married to his wife Lorette and has 4 children and 6 grandchildren.
Linda is a graduate of Warren High School and also of Aaker’s Business College, where she graduated with a Jr. Accountant Degree. Linda worked at Artic Enterprise in the traffic department as a bookkeeper, Warren High School as an office manager and bookkeeper, and Farm Credit Association as an Agri Fax Technician. She joined Phil Thompson and Associates in 1989. Linda and her husband Ed have 2 grown children, 5 grandchildren and 1 great-grandchild.
Lindsey graduated from the University of Minnesota with a Bachelor of Science in Accountancy and is currently working to obtain her license as a CPA. Lindsey started her accounting and tax career in 2012 at Kays, Benton, Safranski & Co LLP before coming to Phil Thompson & Associates in 2014. Lindsey moved to Warren from a small town in Wisconsin and is married to Justin Buegler. They have 2 children and have enjoyed getting to know the Warren community.
Lori graduated from Bemidji State University with a Bachelor’s degree in Finance in 2003 and received her Certified Public Accountant Licensure in 2007. She was a CPA at Michael J. Nichols, Ltd. of Ham Lake, MN from 2004-2008, and Fiebiger Sawnson, West and Co. LPP of Fargo ND, from 2008-2011. Lori works in both the Warren and Crookston offices of Phil Thompson & Associates and she specializes in farm and business tax.
Lori grew up on a farm near Crookston and stays active in the community through the Chamber of Commerce, United Way, and as the Rotary Club Secretary.
Lynn has been with Phil Thompson and Associates for 20 years. He has also worked as a farmer and crop adjuster as well as owned a restaurant in Argyle for 10 years. Lynn is married to his wife Pam and they have 3 children and 3 grandchildren.
Marilynn M. Odgen
Marilyn graduated from UND with a BSBA in 1978. She worked as a tax preparer/bookkeeper for Perason & Christensen Law office and Farm Credit Services. She was also a probate officer and financial planner at Alerus Financial and Trust. She has been working with Phil Thompson and Associates since 2005. Marilyn and her husband Kurt have 2 children.
Paula graduated from Stephen/Argyle Central high school and Joseph’s School. She started working for Phil Thompson & Associates in 2000 doing payroll and bookkeeping. Paula and her husband Ryan have 2 sons and a daughter.
Kelsey graduated from Lafayette High School in Red Lake Falls and Northland Community and Technical College in East Grand Forks with an Associate’s Degree in Accounting. Kelsey started her Accounting career in 2013 working at Gale E. Schmitz, Ltd. before starting her employment with Phil Thompson & Associates in August 2015. Kelsey lives in Red Lake Falls with her husband Jordon and their children Zoey and Clayton.
Kenton has more than 30 years of experience in the field of taxation. After graduating from UND and receiving his certificate of Public Accounting License, Kenton served in the U.S. Army for two years, including a one year tour in Vietnam. He then returned to UND for graduate school and taught a few accounting courses while there. He serves on or has served on the Board of Directors at the Greater Grand Forks Senior Center, Grand Forks Senior Center Foundation, Delta Tau Delta House Corporation, the Sunshine Memorial Foundation, and the South Forks Lions and has been President and/or Treasurer of all of them.
Kenton resides in Grand Forks with his wife, Marilyn. They have four sons.
Nerissa graduated from Crookston High School and then graduated from Northland Community and Technical College with a degree of an Administrative Support with a Micro Emphasis. Nerissa has worked at Tri-Valley and was a stay at home mom before joining Phil Thompson & Associates in 2015. Nerissa and her significant other Tad reside in Warren and have three children.
Bruce graduated from Warren High School and then graduated from NDSU with a Bachelor of Science degree in Agricultural Economics. Prior to joining Phil Thompson, Bruce was the County Executive director for the west Polk County Farm Service Agency for over 29 years. Bruce lives on Union Lake near Erskine, MN. He spends his free time fishing, golfing, and operating his dog breeding business, Northern Lights Retrievers.
